Kimono Robes
A kimono-cut robe is different in structure from a traditional wrap robe. Wider sleeves, straight lines from shoulder to hem, no fitted waist. It reads as an outer layer more than a robe — closer to a light jacket than to what you might wear under it. That's part of why kimono robes have moved into daytime wear over the last decade; they work over slip dresses, over pajamas, over swimwear.
The cut works because there's no fitting involved. A well-cut kimono robe fits a wider range of body types than a fitted wrap robe, because it's not trying to conform to a specific shape. It drapes.
Our kimono robe collection comes in silk, satin, and bamboo. Silk kimonos are the most considered — the fabric drape works with the loose cut in a way that's genuinely beautiful. Satin kimonos have more visible weight and glossy finish. Bamboo kimonos are the everyday version, soft and easy to care for.
Lengths vary — short kimonos at mid-thigh, mid-length kimonos at the knee, long kimonos to the floor. The sleeve width is fairly consistent across the collection — wider than a traditional robe, but not so wide that they get in the way.
Belts are optional. Some kimonos are cut to wear open, some come with an obi-style sash. Either works.
